Fall & Winter: We’re Open!

We are entering a more creative time at Grates Cove Studios. This is the time of year when Terrence resumes his artwork and we both explore the outdoors, foraging and developing new dishes and products based on our exploration. (This is how we came to develop our Seaweed Face and Body Lotion last winter.) Fall and winter are also when we cater directly to you. For example….

Want a weekend away (only two hours from St. John’s) with family, friends or your partner?

Our HARBOR VIEW HOUSE is available year round and has a spectacular view of the Atlantic. Watching the wild and ever changing ocean all snug at the kitchen table with some homemade partridge berry tea or toddy is, well, a great joy. We will work directly with you to develop a menu for your meals that can be enjoyed at our restaurant, or we can deliver them to the Harbor View House so that you don’t have to take your eyes off that ocean. We also have our picnic backpacks that can be filled with gumbo, etouffee, a touton burger, you name it.

Feel like learning how to make some of these dishes? We also offer COOKING CLASSES year round. We develop each menu for the class with you. The possibilities for the cooking class are endless. Etoufee, Couvillion, Gumbo, Jeon, Sushi, our touton buns. Let’s Chat!

Our restaurant is also available for your family & co-worker HOLIDAY MEALS. Instead of offering a holiday menu, we will work directly with each group to develop their menu. No need to wait until the holidays. Reservations and catered meals are offered anytime. Just give a call or send us a message to make a reservation. We will also continue to offer a weekend menu for those out and about on the weekends.

Can’t get down to Grates Cove, but would like one of our dishes at your next dinner party or on a Wednesday night after work? No problem. Many of our Cajun Sauces are available in large quantities and freeze well. Snow Crab Etouffe or Chicken & Sausage Jambalaya can be on your dinner table in no time. We are also venturing into onsite catering for small to medium sized groups (up to 100 people). Give a call for more information.

One of the newest experiences we have for you are our SEAWEED BATHS. I know. I know. At first this sounds a bit, well, out there. (This place is out there.) Just give it a try and you will discover what a great experience this can be. Our guests this summer were our testers. (We’ve been enjoying seaweed baths since last winter. Even our little hostess enjoys them.) We have gotten great feedback from our guests, feeling relaxed and rejuvenated, having a better night’s sleep. And, their skin is so soft.

We also have three big events planned until the end of the year. Mark your Calendars!

NOVEMBER 5TH: Film Screenings, Food & Music featuring Writer Director Jenina MacGillivary’s SKIP shot in and around Grates Cove. Get to know Jenina even more that evening as she and Katie Baggs perform. Food will be served throughout the day and beautiful historic Grates Cove is there to enjoy during intermissions.

NOVEMBER 26TH: Celtic Fiddlers

DECEMBER 10TH: Port of Call

We are soooooo excited to have both Celtic Fiddlers and Port of Call returning to Grates Cove. You’d best get your reservations in early for both of these. Supper will be served prior to each of these events, and both the Harbor View and Sung Harbor houses will be available.

Last, but not least. We will be starting our online store soon! It will start with our Seaweed Face and Body Lotion and will grow to offer our Savory Cajun Spice, and original pieces by Terrence. We will let you know when it is up and running and when new products and original pieces are available.

We cannot tell you how wonderful it is to meet and get to know so many of our customers from all over this incredible province, this country and the world! When our family started this journey years ago, we did not know where it would lead us or this business. It has been your feedback and your continued patronage that, honestly, help us grow. You are the ones who encourage us to be creative, to explore and to continue to develop Grates Cove Studios. Thank you!

Hi you guys! It’s Barbara Shaw writing to you. I so well remember eating at your place, and seeing the school in its ‘infancy’. This is the first time I’ve visited your site. Looks like you have everything going great!! I am very pleased and excited for you. Do miss ‘the Grates’ very much! Wish I could visit again. But – I’m turning 80 soon – very hard to believe – and don’t think I’ll be able to make it there again. Sad. Still, now I’ve ‘found’ you, I’ll visit you this way again.
All the best to you. I have, unfortunately, forgotten your daughter’s name. How big she must be now!! Any brothers or sisters for her? Cheers and Congrats to you! I’m very impressed! 🙂
Once you’re on Etsy, my ‘shop’ is BZSTapestriesPlus.

      Hello Barbara!
It is great to hear from you. It is hard to believe, but it has been nearly eight years since we arrived here in Grates Cove with a, then, infant Phoenix. She’s growing up and enjoying Grates Cove as much as we are. We joke that she will name all the rocks here.
I hope that you are well. Again, it is so great to hear from you.
      Terrence & Courtney
